"Be a clear and rational lunatic whom the most intelligent people follow"

- Rumi (From A Deep Nobility)

Woooooo Hooooooo!
Hey there! Welcome to the inspiration economy!
The BIG Idea:
Several months ago I was wondering to myself - I do that sometimes ;-) - "What will the time after the information age be called?" It occurred to me that it will be the "Inspiration Age".  In the past, when I needed to make a decision, I would look for information to help me make a logical choice. Now, As I get more overwhelmed by information all the time, I noticed that the way I make decisions is by choosing the thing that inspires me.

I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE.

Then, I've been wondering why coaching as a profession is growing so quickly in the past few years AND why its been so perfect for me.  Well, for me it's simple.  A few years ago I decided that I was only going to work on projects that inspired me.  From that moment, my coaching business thrived.  (its actually a longer story than that, but I'll share that with you later) Again,

I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE.

Finally, the other element of coaching that is so profound is that I get paid to inspire others on a daily basis. What a life! This is a major development in the economy because if I get paid for it (as do others) there must be a demand for it! (simple economics) WOW! There are people in the market DEMANDING inspiration.  Thus the idea for the inspiration economy was born!

At this moment I am awed and thrilled by the opportunity to steward this grand and glorious idea. Thanks for any part you play in it!

Dave

Things I've learned about inspiration:

  • It's universal AND personal
  • It's different than motivation or passion.
  • It can include but it is more than excitement, enjoyment or entertainment
  • Often leads to easy flowing action and results
  • Can sometimes lead to a sudden desire to do nothing.
  • It's impossible to explain, but you know it when you feel it.
  • An inspiration can completely re-explain your past.
  • Inspiration is easily blocked and easily renewed
  • Bold, authentic self-expression is inspiring!
  • The Inspiration Economy:

    1) People in the market making purchase decisions based on being inspired (in spite of or in addition to features and benefits)

    2) People in the market choosing work based on being inspired (in spite of or in addition to pay and benefits)

Items 1 and 2 are creating a Demand for inspiration. which leads to item 3

    3) People in the market being paid to provide inspiration to others! (e.g.. careers that have inspiration as a component: coaches, speakers, teachers, religious leaders, government
    leaders, executive leaders etc.)

    and

people who create inspiring products and experiences for others (eg. performers, artists, product designers)

The Game Plan (& how you can play)

    1) I'll be leading LOTS of R&D conversations over the next 12 months - with a bunch in December 2002 and January 2003 (details here). You can join the R&D team by sending an email to: dave13-29416@autocontactor.com
Not familiar with the R&D idea or what it means?
It means I'll be seeking a lot of input from folks who are attracted to the idea and LOVE to help by talking about ideas, sharing experiences and trying out processes and practices. All you need is a desire to learn and a willingness to contribute.

    2) Craft two 6-week programs to begin in February 2002 (tentative titles): a) Living an Inspired Life b) Thriving in the Inspiration Ecomomy - How to earn lots by inspiring people! (the 2 program package will be $99)

    3) Lead live workshops on the inspiration economy in the cities where I lead Coachville Coaching Intensives.  If you have any connection with local coaching communities in these cities and/or can help set up an event, please let me know. Schedule is here:

    4) Create the "Inspiration Economy" website! and logo and begin creating and collecting content.  If you would like to contribute an article with a theme like: How I live an inspired life, Or, How I inspire people.  I would love to host it / share it on this new site.
