Description
Ready to quantum leap the cyber skills learning curve? You really can design and build your own website! And
you don't need to be a computer programmer to do it. In this tele-program with web-classroom you will learn how to design graphics, layout web pages and post
them to the web. This is not a high-level concepts program, this is targeted software training in the two best programs for novice website builders: Net Objects Fusion and Ulead Photoimpact (many professionals
use them too!)
If you're a professional or micro-business owner, you'd probably love to have the skills to create you own web site(s), but it seems too complicated. You know that if
someone would show you the basics, you could learn the rest on your own! In this unique web-enhanced -tele-program I'll do just that! When I show you how easy it is, (by using the software I use) you'll be
amazed and delighted. You'll blow right through that scary learning curve!
But there is more to building a web site than knowing how to do it! Design is essential. In this program we will browse many "personal" web sites together and
explore the fundamentals of good design. By the end of the program, we'll visit your web site DURING THE CLASS to give you live feedback (AND praise!)
There will be a maximum of 9 participants in the program! (You'll get lots of attention)

About me
In my consulting work, I've been conducting software training for 18 years! I built this website myself using the programs that I'll teach you. I'm a leader in the
field of phone and web-based training. I believe that within five years people will build websites as commonly as they use word processing today. The web is the greatest –most universally available –
medium for self-expression ever created and I want to help you be a part of it!

- Select and use a domain server (I've investigated the best options for you to save you time!)
- Design the basic framework of your site
- Build web pages (It's VERY easy once you know how!)
- Create graphic images from photos and ClipArt
- Post your site to the Web!
- Experiment with design elements until your site feels right
- Evolve your site continuously
How the sessions will work
Each week we'll gather for one hour in the virtual classroom that will include a teleconference bridge AND an internet meeting place. I'll demonstrate
selected features of the web development program (NetObjects Fusion) to accelerate you through the learning curve. Then we'll browse the web together looking at sites. We'll share and learn about design
and techniques by looking at real life examples. But the best part is when we visit your site and you get live feedback from me and your fellow participants.
Then… in the time in between our sessions you'll work with the programs to build your site and actually post it to the web!

Prerequisites
- Up-to-date MS Windows-based computer (No Mac users, sorry)
- Ability to use the phone and web simultaneously
- Intermediate computer skills – (eg. you're comfortable with the web, windows and MS Word)
- You are comfortable installing new software on your computer
- You must pass a pre-class interview. To ensure the quality of the program for everyone, I'll conduct a quick interview with you to make sure you have the necessary skills. (don't be nervous!)
- Be prepared to pay a web hosting company to reserve your domain name (i.e. davebuck.com) and host (typically a one-year contract) your site. The price will depend on the options you choose,
which I'll explain. ($100-$200/yr)
- Be prepared to spend 3-10 hours per week working on your site between the sessions.

- Purchase and install Net Objects Fusion (version 7) web page development program (see www.netobjects.com) (NOTE! I suggest you buy the program on www.amazon.com - it's cheaper and you'll get it faster)
- Purchase and install Ulead PhotoImpact 7 www.ulead.com

The software training element of this program is based on two programs. In my opinion, these programs offer
the best combination of great features, ease of use and LOW price.
NetObjects' Fusion web site development program (www.netobjects.com). The current version of the program is 7
Ulead's PhotoImpact graphic program (www.ulead.com) - the current version is 7.0 - has
been winning awards for several years for its excellent feature/price combination.

FAQ
What about other web development programs and graphic design programs like Front Page and the Adobe software?
These programs are great too, but I don't use them. To participate in this program, you must use the two programs I have indicated.
Can I buy a book to catch up on the computer skills part?
It's possible. Some people learn new skills faster than others. The important thing is that you have the basic
skills that will allow you to keep up with the program and actually accomplish the intended result without stress!
